It looks like the Melrose, Mass. store with the clock tower. The store is completely redone and the tower is gone, it is currently a Johnnie's Foodmaster.Larryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05830053424679597542noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1033289293807518844.post-74056141340774402322010-05-12T17:48:16.854-05:002010-05-12T17:48:16.854-05:00How to get "Finast"? And no grass to mow!

Steve – No doubt a product of its time, but one of the nicer examples I think.

Nightdragon – I still can’t believe that 1985 was 25 years ago! The fifties shouldn’t be much further back than that. :)

Didi – Definitely convenient. And you know the kids are going to do exactly that!

Anonymous – And for that, they deserve our undying gratitude.

Mel – Nirvana, or our version of it at least! :)

Randy – The “Finast” misspelling is completely intentional in this case. :) Somehow, First National Stores derived that as a nickname. My Dad, who grew up in Rhode Island in the 40’s and 50’s, still refers to it as “The First National”, though.Davehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07788722183424550052noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1033289293807518844.post-79454591359987833482010-05-08T01:06:47.198-05:002010-05-08T01:06:47.198-05:00I'm sure you mean "finest view".I'm sure you mean "finest view".Randynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1033289293807518844.post-53974533670980136062010-05-06T08:52:10.770-05:002010-05-06T08:52:10.770-05:00Oh, all of these vintage groceries in one place - ...Oh, all of these vintage groceries in one place - it must be Nirvana! :DAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07178918768247140912noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1033289293807518844.post-80059116548489371342010-05-05T14:54:58.655-05:002010-05-05T14:54:58.655-05:00And the institution that made it all possible, rig...And the institution that made it all possible, right out the window.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1033289293807518844.post-63817938553839041302010-05-05T13:33:27.630-05:002010-05-05T13:33:27.630-05:00It must be really nice to transport yourself to 19...It must be really nice to transport yourself to 1957, have a gleaming kitchen (with a pink clock no less!) and be able to walk two feet to the nearest Finast when the kids pour the last of the orange juice on the floor.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1033289293807518844.post-90749450140975331222010-05-04T05:16:10.261-05:002010-05-04T05:16:10.261-05:00Oh, we can dream alright.
