A Gala Premiere - Studio City 1963

Here is the Grand Opening ad for the Studio City Market Basket store featured in the previous post. This ad appeared in the Pasadena Star-News on January 16, 1963. One of the interesting aspects of "Grand Opening" ads from these years is that they often featured photos or line drawings of the actual store in question. The line drawing in this case is a fairly accurate representation.

  1. My grandfather, Richard Doleshal, along with his brothers, were the original owners and founders of Doleshal Bros. Meat Markets in Pasadena and Altadena. The markets became the Market Baskets.
I have an original add from the meat markets from the Star News.

  2. Hello fellow Doleshal. My grandfather, Joseph, worked for his brothers--one being Uncle Richard and my dad also for a short time in Altedena. So it seems you might be the child of Dick or Josephine, or ? -- can't remember the names of Uncle Richard's other children, if he had others..? I only visited Uncle Richard's home a few times when I was very young. Dick and Josephine were quite a bit older than I. Hope your life is going well. Hadn't thought much about Doleshal Bros. since my dad died in the mid-sixties. Don
