A New Wal-Mart On The Way

One last Wal-Mart post, that is. In the meantime, the boys here'll get the sign set up. From the looks of their outfits, it must have been a pretty cold day. I don't think I'd mess with 'em.

  1. I had the opportunity to visit several Walmart stores of late and I think they're in the midst of an identity crisis. In my area alone they're pushing at least five different decor packages, ranging from slightly updated late '90s to a new version with bright wall colors, curved shelving and giant department signs. For a company that prided themselves on rigid uniformity, this is an interesting development.

  2. I've seen the new logo and I am not impressed. They should jazz up the font with a great color.

  3. Steven - I've noticed the mix as well. Over the last year or so, the newest signs do seem to have been designed in anticipation of the new Walmart logo. Now that they've settled that, there may be more consistency going forward.

Didi - I kind of like it. It has a (little) bit of a 70's feel to it, and the lighter blue is modern compared to the deep navy shade. I guess they are a bit conservative to jazz it up too much.

  4. Reminds me of when I was ten years old and we moved to Vero Beach, FL. We had a NEW Wal-Mart that looked just like that. We thought it was so clean, so nice, so wonderful, so much better than Kmart. It was. The stigma in middle school about shopping Wal-Mart was not bad like Kmart.

  5. LOL! Like when I was in the fourth grade and my friend Crystal advised me not to tell anyone my cute umbrella came from Kmart?

  6. If these guys only knew how many signs they would erect in the coming years, they may have left after this one. I wonder if any of these guys are still in the business today, getting ready to a massive replacement of Walmart signage over the next 18 months.

  7. Ken - Maybe they're still at it! I'm really looking forward to my first gander at a Wal-Mart store converted to the new look.
